Our Board Members
Our Board is made up entirely of volunteers. As a working board, our Board Members are not only responsible for determining the strategic plans for accomplishing our Mission, they are the ones executing those plans. In addition to monthly board meetings, they volunteer their time on at least one of the GLSEN Phoenix working committees, oftentimes even chairing those committees. The most vocal GLSEN Phoenix ambassadors, the Board donates their time, talents, and treasure to ensure schools are a safer place for LGBTQ+ students.
I think that any youth-serving organization should be youth-driven, and so I appreciate seeing folks who were involved when they were in high school come back after high school and get involved again.
Wallace Hudson, GLSEN Phoenix Education Manager
As one of the largest of over 40 GLSEN chapters across the country, GLSEN Phoenix has a lot of work to do. As a volunteer-run organization operating several large programs that serve the Greater-Phoenix Area, we are grateful for the support of our team of part-time contractors. They dedicate 10-15 hours a week to lending their expertise, innovating and growing our programs and ensuring their smooth operation through volunteer management.
SHINE lets you meet other passionate LGBTQ+ students that you would never get to meet otherwise, it's a great way to make friends and still be able to help the community.
Caitlin, SHINE Leader
The SHINE Team
The SHINE Team is GLSEN Phoenix's very own high school leadership development program. Our SHINE Leaders represent high schools all across the Valley and identities all across the LGBTQ+ community. We believe in empowering youth with the tools for success and then letting them lead. In addition to planning student events and undergoing leadership training throughout the school year, our SHINE Leaders also serve on at least one GLSEN Phoenix working committee, contributing their voices and ideas while also learning practical skills.
