GLSEN Phoenix is pleased to announce summer theatre workshops for queer youth and their allies. Students attending the GLSEN theatre workshops will learn basic acting skills, develop existing skills, engage in story-telling techniques and become part of a larger community. Participants will explore physical theatre, create new, original material, practice in improvisation, learn basic playwriting techniques and will be able to bring their own talents and suggestions to the work. The workshops are free of charge and are open to all youth ages 14-20, no experience is necessary.
Participants will work in a safe and private student workspace where they can explore personal stories, guided by theatre professional A. Beck. Beck is a graduate of the Dell’ Arte International School of Physical Theatre, currently pursuing a Masters degree in Theatre for Youth at Arizona State University. Beck most recently served as a director, playwright, theatre instructor and tour manager with About Face Youth Theatre, a nationally recognized LGBT theatre in Chicago. Day of Action: Ally Week: September 18-24 |
Who can help us to end anti-LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) bullying and harassment in our schools? ALLIES!
GLSEN is proud to be encouraging students to end anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in K-12 schools with a new day of action, Ally Week! What better way to kick-off the school year than to have student clubs, commonly known as gay-straight alliances (GSA's), identify and support allies in your school? Ally Week can be simple - passing out stickers to allies who sign the pledge, or more advanced with an event or series of events planned throughout the week.
Find out more about Ally Week online!

ARIZONA TOGETHER FORUM ON BALLOT TO BAN SAME-SEX MARRIAGE |
The Arizona Human Rights Foundation, in partnership with the Arizona Together Coalition, the Community Church of Hope, and ECHO Magazine, will host a community forum on Wednesday evening, August 31 to discuss the "Protect Marriage Arizona" ballot measure.
In 2004, 11 states passed initiatives to amend their state constitutions to ban gay marriage. In several states, the initiative also banned any government recognition of domestic partnerships - gay or straight. In November 2006, Arizona voters WILL turn the trend around! Come hear the details and prepare to get excited.
"There's been a lot of media attention on this initiative, but not a lot of information," said Greg Polzin, Executive Director of the Arizona Human Rights Foundation. "Many people have expressed an intense interest in learning the facts about this initiative, what's going on to stop it and how they can help. This forum will be their opportunity to learn about the work that has been done so far, and to plug into future campaign activities."
WHERE: Community Church of Hope
4121 N 7th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ
(main entrance is off 6th Drive)
WHEN: Wednesday, August 31, 2005, 7:00pm to 9:00pm

CAST YOUR VOTE TO SUPPORT GLSEN NATIONAL! |
Working Assets is a long distance, wireless, credit card and online
company that donates a percentage of its revenue to progressive
nonprofit groups. Since 1985, it has raised approximately $30 million in donations for hundreds of nonprofit organizations.
Last year, the Working Assets Corporation gave more than $62,000 to
GLSEN National to support our critical work ensuring safe schools for all, including lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students ... and we are delighted to report that GLSEN has again been selected to receive funding next year!
Every time a customer uses a Working Assets service, the company donates a percentage of the charges (at no extra cost) to nonprofit groups working for a better world. The allocation of the funds among the 50 selected organizations is decided by the votes of Working Assets' customers.
Please show your support for GLSEN! If you are a current Working Assets long distance, wireless, or credit card customer, visit http://www.workingassets.com/voting/. Take a moment to register, read the online donations ballot, and cast your vote for GLSEN! The final voting results will be announced in the spring of 2006.
